Background
At the moment the status of electric transportation of Estonia is very embryonic – few enthusiasts have developed EV prototypes, the supporting infrastructure is non-existent and the green transportation is out of the policy agenda.
On the other hand, the restructuring process of global economy that started last year has caused a quite radical change in automotive and personal transportation industry. Leading nations have clearly set political goals to promote sustainable and green transportation and to ensure energy independence.
The automotive industry, currently going through an identity crisis, has responded to the situation with a promise to delivery various electricity based vehicles to the mass market. New EV concepts pop up all around the world.
This global change means that in many sectors we are all standing in point zero. Among other things it opens up opportunities to countries and companies previously left out of the big game. That includes Estonia.
We see our potential mainly in developing infrastructural solutions, like smart charging networks and connected cars. In addition to that there is a lot of innovation potential in EV charging systems. In coming years we see that the
demand side for such solutions greatly exceeds the supply.
But, for a breakthrough in a national level, we need coordinated actions which include rising the consumer awareness, building the competence in grid and charging technologies, assuring the EV supply and raising the green transportation political agenda. For this reason the general platform called Electromobile Estonia 2020 has been founded.
OUR GOALS:
EARLY ADOPTION
Articulate the clear consumer demand for EV-s.
By 2010 around 10 000 EV enthusiasts
SUPPLY OF EV-S
To ensure the supply of affordable EV-s for
larger audience
2011 xEV-s on sale in local dealerships
2011 readiness to sell xEV-s with subscriptions to infra-operator(s).
CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE
Convenient and fast charging options to ensure the freedom to drive.
2011 pilot network in Estonia
2011 commercial network operator starts
SUPPORTING POLICY AGENDA
Green policy to support the revolution in personal transportation sector
CO2 based car tax
Green public procurement rules
Free parking all around Estonia
Our vision: Vision: 20% of cars in Estonia will use electricity as a main energy source by 2020
- New market opportunities for local power companies, around 270GWh per year
- xEV-s will give 50% of new car sales since 2015.
- New market opportunities for ICT, electronics and engineering companies as billions of EUROs will be spent on infrastructure in coming years.
- Energy independence and lower CO2 burden for Estonia.
- Export opportunities and new jobs in macroeconomic perspective.
Our mission
Our mission is to develop sustainable and efficient electric transportation ecosystem in Estonia by coordinating, managing and executing joint efforts to achieve the goals of EE2020.
